A coalition of Jewish leaders, organizers, community members and business people are currently raising funds to purchase and renovate the historic “Alberta Shul” building (home to Congregation Tifereth Israel from 1914-1952), in order to save the building and its history and revive what was once a thriving religious and communal Jewish space in Northeast Portland.
The building was put up for sale in June, 2017. An offer has been made and accepted by our coalition in order to save it from developers who also made offers on the building and lot. We are seeking funds to complete the sale (currently in escrow), buy the building outright, and complete renovations to make the space usable. We are seeking local and national donors, bridge financing, and in-kind donations for restoration to help purchase this building immediately and restore it.
